Flower Forecast - 3 March 2022 - 3 weeks to go

It is already 3 March and because of the relatively warm winter in Holland, the flower fields are almost ready to bloom. The prospects for the upcoming tulip season are therefore very good. We even expect the first early tulips to bloom by the end of March. This means that from the opening of the tulip activities on Thursday 24 March until the closing on Sunday 15 May there will be a lot of blossoming flowers to admire.

Current state of the tulip fields in Holland

With three weeks to go, the first daffodil fields start to bloom. Many tulip fields remain in the ground for a while and will only start growing in the coming weeks.

The winter has been very mild so far. The next 14 days will be slightly colder but with a lot of sunshine. This is good for the flowers to bloom.

Flower Forecast 2022*

Due to the warm winter weather, the flower fields are probably about 1 to 2 weeks earlier than average. This means that there are already many blooming flowers to admire at the opening of the tulip season on 24 March.

This means we expect the following blooming periods for the flower fields:

Crocus – blooming between now and end of March
Daffoldils – Daffoldils fields from beginning of March till the beginning of April.
Hyacints – Hyacint flower fields from Mid March till the end of April.
Tulips – We expect the first tulips to start blooming from the end of March. Peak blooming will be between Mid-April till the end of April.

**The above forecast is for the flower fields. The flowering at Keukenhof Gardens and the other show gardens will take longer. There, the flowers are not headed and will bloom until approximately mid-May.

*We try to predict the flowering of the flowers as well as possible. However, the bloom continues to be influenced by nature. Due to weather conditions the flowering process can be different than what we expect.

Blooming of the flowers at Keukenhof Gardens

The blooming of the flowers at Keukenhof Gardens is a bit different from the blooming of the flower fields. The flowers at the flower garden have been specifically chosen to ensure that blooming flowers can be seen from the opening (24 March) to the closure (15 May) of the park. Also, the tulips are not headed so the tulips can be admired much longer in Keukenhof than on the flower fields around the park. The same applies to tulip show gardens and tulip farms. They will probably all have tulips flowering until 15 May.

When booking your Keukenhof Gardens tickets, you must select a day and time slot for entering the park. In 2024, Keukenhof will work with a maximum number of tickets per day and arrival time.
